ABOUT THE EDITOR
Who is running this virtual fish wrap? What makes her qualified and credible?
After living, what felt to be a lifetime, in the USA- where I never felt like I belonged- I spent every bit of coin and time to travel around the globe to various countries and continents, visiting the places that intrigued me most. My target was not just a holiday, even though I enjoyed myself in each place. I was looking for a place to that suited my lifestyle. Eventually, I took my immediate family to Australia, where I did all I could to thrive. That ended abruptly in 2015, when fate carried me to Bali, Singapore, and finally Thailand.
I planned to stay only for a few weeks in Thailand; long enough to look for a new destination. However, I quickly fell in love with the Thai lifestyle, and weeks turned to months and then to years. During that time I lived in Isaan, Bangkok, and Phuket, sustaining myself with online work and vice industry activities. Those sources of income were far removed from the professional roles I played in my prior life in the West.
In fourteen years of university study I earned several degrees: BS (biopsychology), MS (physio), MBA (health administration), and JD (emphasis in natural resources law). Writing was a key skill in all my academic disciplines and the subsequent professional roles I would take. I served for two years as a lead articles editor for an academic law review while studying law and preparing my significant paper about the history of water appropriation of the Gila River in the American Southwest. The reward for my talent and efforts was a corporate culture that shackled me onto, what I call, the Western Treadmill, where I was a corporate whore exploited for my talents.
So, I do have experience in the western lifestyle, but I traded that for something more simple; more raw. Instead of a four bedroom home with a swimming pool, 2 Audi motorcars, and Ducati motorcycles, I have a small rented room and a Honda click. Most of the time, I walk. In Patong, sometimes walking is faster than riding or dealing with parking or annoying tuktuk and taxi drivers. it certainly is less aggravating. (But that is a topic for another time). I still have not determined whether walking is safer as I have been struck my cars and tuktuks before. More about that at another time!
Now, after eight years in Thailand, I decided to unpack the usb keyboard and use my academic and life knowledge of Thailand to write about what I love; which is, generally speaking, debauchery. So please be patient with me as I dust off and polish my writing skills while trying to convey some information and services that I hope will be useful to you in your travels to Thailand.
Cheers,
Akira Angeliq
